Hefty Goat Holler Banshee

February 6, 2023

Grade Herdbook MDGA

Banshee was born to HGF Rhea *D, one of a set of quads. Unfortunately, two other doelings were DOA. The fourth kid was a live buckling. While I was assisting with her siblings, Banshee screamed and screamed, indignant that her first meal was taking so long. It was so nerve-wracking that I actually scooped her up and took her to the house. Thankfully, she grew out of the screeching but the name stuck.

Banshee was a nightmare to get bred, requiring three buck visits and causing such mass chaos, that between that and her random dramatic outbursts when attempting to lead her, she was always in the back of my mind as a potential sale.

Fast forward to her first freshening, and she delivered a big single buckling and she had teats that pointed every which direction. But I liked her overall udder shape, her lateral attachments were improvements over her dam, and it certainly seemed like her capacity was excellent. I mentioned to my husband that I needed to milk her, meaning I needed to milk because her production was outpacing her newborn. He misunderstood and milked this untrained first freshener. He is a slow milker. She never wiggled. Stood like she'd always been milked. That's how she's been since day one! She's gone from toeing the line to earning a spot safely on the keep list.

Big teats, nice orifice, great texture and milk down. Impressive production so far with just her single as a first freshener in 2025!
